Battling Disease-Spreading Deer Ticks
MINNEAPOLIS – For the avid campers, this is usually the time of year for mosquitoes, but with a dryer than average spring, aggressive treatment and earlier Memorial Day, campers can expect lower number of the pest this weekend. But, ticks are another problem. Mike mclean of Metropolitan Mosquito Control says deer ticks that are usually found in the north and northeastern metro counties are spreading throughout the Twin Cities in recent years. And while most people think of the wood ticks, its the deer ticks that are a third of the size, spreading lime disease people need to be concerned about. They are a lot smaller than people realize but the good news is they have to stay attached to you for 48 hours before they can give you lime disease, so you have a nice chunk of times to find that tick and remove it, said mclean. www.myfoxtwincities.com
