I have Chronic Lyme Disease, so I know I can’t donate bone marrow. So my question is, can I donate blood or platelets? My school is having a blood drive, and I’d love to donate blood, but I don’t know if I can. Thanks!

Sorry, you will not be able to. Lyme disease is a blood disease and you cannot donate blood with a blood disease. There alot of things you cant do anymore and donating blood is one of ‘em.

Probably not. Your white blood cell count most likely would not be able to help anyone who would need a transfusion. Ask your doctor to be sure. You would’nt even need an appointment, just call him/her and ask.

It’s not a good idea for a person with Lyme to donate blood.

nicjmartin,
With reference to the specifications of the Red Cross, people with Kaposi’s sarcoma, Multiple Sclerosis, Lupus, Chagas Disease, Babesiosis, Lyme Disease, and Leishmaniasis may not donate blood. If this is a chronic condition you cannot donate. If you were treated with antibiotics and completely recovered, you can donate 12 months after the last dose of antibiotics were taken. Certification will be required to substantiate these facts.
