Question about ticks and lyme disease?

Monday, January 30th, 2012

Question by : Question about ticks and lyme disease?
My son was tested for lyme disease today. The doctor is pretty sure that’s what he has because of the rash on his face.

My question is: Don’t ticks put their head in your skin and fill up on blood? I’m sure I would have noticed a tick hanging off of his face, so how would he have contracted it?

Best answer:

Answer by deedee
Some are so small they are hardly noticeable. Once they fill up with blood they usually drop off and this could have happened overnight and you missed it. At least he will get treatment before the symptoms get bad.

Even If your dog have a lyme it cannot be transmitted from dog to human. The only agent of Lyme transmission are ticks.
Lyme doesn’t show up in 10 completely symptomless years unless there was a reinfection after another tick bite

if you catch lyme disease in the rash stage and treat it, does it still affect you later and will you still go through the other stages where it affects your nerves and other organs?
also what is the treatment for the rash stage?
i also asked another question about lyme disease, i’m just trying to get as much information about it as possible. if you could help it would be really beneficial. thank you so much (:

This article should help you out…http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/001319.htm#Definition

If treated early you will be fine. Once it gets into the other stages you may always have complication usually arthritis.

Usually 10 days of antibiotics does the trick.

I’m worried about my BELOVED 4 year old cat….ticks?

Question by Catskatscats: I’m worried about my BELOVED 4 year old cat….ticks?
my beloved 4 year old kitty Abadabadoo and i have been together since he was born and no girl could love her cat more than me. I’m always worried, i think about him every 2 seconds and drive my family crazy. I live in a 10 acre woods in Pennsylvania, and i myself had 10 ticks this year, but im so worried. He was inside after he hurt himself, and he is an outdoor cat only and he hasn;t been out for 6 months but he was out now for about a week and a half, hes such a cute little thing (not little, 15 pounds), and he keeps getting ticks. 4 ticks this week!! well i do know alot about ticks, ive been in the woods all 13 years of my life, but every time he gets one he hisses and whines as i pull it off. i feel so bad, and now i see little sacks on his ears which im pretty sure are ticks and he won’t let me touch his ears. He’s a short hair, if that helps. the same cat in the picture. I don;t know how to get them off, i pulled 2 off today and he;s rather grumpy now. Don’t say “take him to the vet” because that is obvious and i can’t do it right now anyway. . im really worried, and it would be nice if you don”t know if you could find some sites i could look at, id really appreciate it, but if you don’t know much about it, dont go further than that. I really need help and i know ticks are bad because i’ve (as i already stated) had ten (4 deer ones included) and i know 3 people with lime disease. Please help me!!! i am so upset about my Abadabadoo!
He has Frontline on him but it doesn’t seem to be working. I’ve used it forever, but this time it isn’t working!!! I keep pulling ticks and i just pulled out his 3rd today but i can’t pull them out without pulling out a chunk of his skin. My poor little thing is a baby to me…… i would be overly heartbroken if something happened to him!!!!!!!
oh and thanks for telling me it’s Lyme i bet it drives you crazy when someone says lime! for a bit i thought it was limes, but now i know better!
and he can’t come indoors. when we had him indoors for his injury, when he wasn’t sleeping, looking terribly sad, being slightly happy, being petted, or getting his medication, he looked out the window. He finally got outside now after six months, and he’s been happier than ever. I don’t want anything to happen to him, but i simply couldn’t do that to him again……

What do I do about a tick on my dog?

Thursday, February 24th, 2011

Question by jaja: What do I do about a tick on my dog?
Ok so i found a tick on my dog, it was reddish orange and pretty small. I took it out but i think its mouth is still in my dogs body. (It was on his head) It is literally impossible to get the head out. What do I do? I used tweezers and got the ticks body out, but like i said, the head is still in, and the area where the tick was is very red. How do i know whats going on with my dog? (lime disease, infection etc) How do i get the ticks head out, and how do I know if this tick had lime disease or something? HElp ME!
ok i gave him a tick shampoo bath literally yesterday.
I AM going to call the vet. I just want to know if there is anything that i can do to prevent anything else from happening.
wait is it actually true that nothing happens if the heads left? I heard that it can lead to infection because the ticks head rots away. And for the person who said ticks burrow deeper into the skin, Ive never heard that…. I know its dead but im afriad for infection.

Some people get the same prolonged reaction after mononucleosis.
At first it’s a physical reaction to an infection. Sometimes, however, it persists due to psychological repressions.

If the doctors can find current biological causes for your tiredness, take their advice on what to do. If, however, they tell you you are clean and physically healthy, then you need to see a psychiatrist. He or she will fix you right up. You will be amazed.

does anyone have any good information about lyme disease?

Thursday, February 3rd, 2011

Question by Renee Ramsay: does anyone have any good information about lyme disease?
my mother is living with lyme disease borrela, she has coinfections. the doctor she first went to didnt recognize it and because of that fact it was worse than it had to be. Other than that i was just wondering if anyone out there, maybe specialists, had any suggestions, information, etc.. for me an my mother.. thank you

Best answer:

Answer by Karen
As I recall Lyme disease is still treatable in the later stages but it is more difficult and perhaps there is a time when the infection can no longer be treated. The longer one has it the longer it will take to clear it, I think my professor said it took a good year of treatment before her little girl really got better. Sorry I can’t be of too much help, I learned more about this organism in terms of transmission and not as much the clinical and treatment aspects of it. Is she seeing an infectious disease specialist or some related specialist? That would probably be her best bet if she is suffering from the original infection and coinfections on top of it. I hope her case is treatable and that she has a speedy and comfortable recovery!

question about seed ticks?

Saturday, December 18th, 2010

Question by Drizzt D: question about seed ticks?
ok my neigbors have been rolling in seed ticks it seems. yesterday they pulled more than 30 ticks off of there oldest child my question is if they pull one and leave the head isn’t that a good way of getting lime disease and or other types of infections?

Best answer:

Answer by Incognito
I don’t know where you live but 30 seed ticks is not that many. Here, in the Ozarks they swarm by the 100′s. Anyway, I wouldn’t worry about the heads still being in. The bits may itch more and swell more but shouldn’t be a problem. By the way, a good way to deal with seed ticks next time is duct tape. Just stick it to the tick and pull it off.

What do you know about lyme disease?

Tuesday, December 14th, 2010

Question by Crysania: What do you know about lyme disease?
My dog has been diagnosed with lyme disease, apparently with a high positive (the number they gave was 253). She has no symptoms at all, but they’re putting her on antibiotics for the next month.

Anyone have any idea what the chances are that this could have affected her kidneys or heart? Anyone have any other thoughts on lyme disease? The info I’m reading on the net is all very conflicting and I’m very worried about my girl.

Lyme disease is an infection that derives from a tick bite. The disease has a variety of symptoms, including changes affecting the skin, heart, joints and nervous system. It is also known as borrelia or borreliosis.
