What should I expect during my Lyme Disease treatment?
Thursday, October 7th, 2010Question by naomistarr: What should I expect during my Lyme Disease treatment?
I recently tested positive for Lyme Disease and started treatment almost two weeks ago. I’ve been taking Doxycycline and so far, I haven’t felt much improvement in my joints and am still very energy drained. When can I start expecting results?

Last year I was treated for a strain of Lyme Disease called Babesiosis (it is one of the worst out there). After starting antibiotics I actually got worse before I got better. This is called the Herxheimer Reaction. Basically, the die-off of the spirochetes will probably make you feel worse before you can feel better. It took me about 1 months to start seeing any positive results. If you don’t notice improvement within a month, talk to your doctor about adjusting the dose of the Doxycycline and maybe switching or combining it with other antibiotics to best fit your particular strain of Lyme. In the mean time, hang in there! It does get better!
