Question by married with children: I just found out my daughters boyfriend has Lyme disease. Does anyone personally have this and what should ?
What should my daughter and I know about this? Is it forever, does it hurt? Will he have a life of crippling pain? Any thoughts and ideas, Please
He seems very healthy and plays high school football. I would not have known differently.

You need to go to WebMd.com and read up on Lyme’s disease. If caught early, this can be successfully treated with antibiotics and then he is considered cured. If it is caught later, it usually needs a longer period of treatment. He will not have a life of crippling pain once he is treated. If he is having joint discomfort now, he should be using some over the counter pain medication on a regular basis while being treated. I would guess his physician has already recommended this.

Thursday, January 26th, 2012

Question by Josh: I found a tick on my testicles could this be lyme disease?
Now, the area there is a little bump, and part of my penis there is a rash that itches. We went camping and that’s how i got it, there also i got TONS of mosquito bites. What should i do?

I did not pull the tick out, i found it during school and when me and my mom went to pull it out, it wasn’t there

Probably not, the skin in that area is really sensitive, so any little irritation like a small tick bite could make you itch and cause that area to swell up. If you have any other symptoms like fever, muscle or joint aches, etc, go see your doctor.

Question by mami: just found a tick on me?
i found a tick on me and im freaking out i pulled it off. i know i got the whole thing. now theres a red bump like a bug bite there and i googled it and it seemed like it was a deer tick the ones that give you lime disease.. should i go to the doctors ? i know it wasnt there for more than 2 days but its really disgusting

Answer by Midnyte
I’ve seen people suggest keeping the tick, in case you have any ill effects. That way the doctor’s can test it to see what you’re suffering from. If you don’t start to feel sick in the next few days, I wouldn’t worry about it.

Last week I found a tick on me. It had bitten me and I removed it. The tick was dead.?

Sunday, December 12th, 2010

Question by cognitive.distortion: Last week I found a tick on me. It had bitten me and I removed it. The tick was dead.?
I’ve now noticed a red raised area at the site of the bite. Its been 7 days. The area is not painful but it can get itchy. Do tick bites normally become irritated??

I think I am going to make an appointment at my clinic for next week. The irritation just came to my attention recently. I’m mostly concerned because I am pregnant and I don’t want anything to happen to the baby.

Advice??

(And I don’t want to hear foolishness about “omg you have lime disease…”… I know this could always be a possibility… I’m not in an area where this is a problem and it was not a deer tick that nibbled on me)
The site is smaller than a dime if that helps…

I found out yesterday my dog has Lyme disease, now she is breathing heavily, is she okay?

Wednesday, December 8th, 2010

Question by Nicole: I found out yesterday my dog has Lyme disease, now she is breathing heavily, is she okay?
I was not home for this, but I was told yesterday she was not able to move her back legs, and was taken to the vet right away where they said she has Lyme disease. She is now on anti-biotics and is able to walk a little. Since I didn’t get to talk to the vet, I’m not sure what I should be keeping an eye on. She is a ten year old Scotty if that helps. Thanks for nothing Frontline! :(

I’m not sure if Frontline is something that prevents lymes disease or not. Our vet recommended a lymes disease shot for our dog and we went ahead and did it… she gets boosters every year. If youre the one taking care of your dog call the vet and find out what you should be watching for. the antibiotics will help i’m sure. good luck and love to your scotty.

I found a tick on my shirt today in school, what should i do?

Saturday, November 20th, 2010

Question by B-B@!! P!@Y@: I found a tick on my shirt today in school, what should i do?
I put my clothes in a locker in the locker room, and i came back to change and i found a tick on it. My friend removed it but im paranoid about getting lime disease now. What should i do?
I know you have to be bitten to get Lyme disease, but whats to say if there was one tick, there wasn’t another one. I’ve heard ticks get pretty small. I checked the inside and outside of my shirt thoroughly, but i could have missed something that was tiny.

Answer by Cassaundra Love Me!!!!!!!!
Well hey, I’m cassaundra, i am 13 but. . . I have had many ticks, mostly during the summer in ohio. all you have to do is rub your hands on your head in between the hairs so that you are touching your scalp. and do that all over your head. if you feel a tick/lump. get alcohole, then a cotten ball. dip it in the alcohole put it wear the tick is, pull out the tick and then burn the tick. DON”T flush the tick. it just climbes back up. then just take a shower to get the alcohole out.

Q&A: What would be found if antibodies from people not infected with Lyme disease were exposed to Lyme bacteria?

Sunday, October 31st, 2010

Question by belleswan: What would be found if antibodies from people not infected with Lyme disease were exposed to Lyme bacteria?
And also, kind of related, if an uninfected person were injected with Lyme disease bacteria, what would happen?

Best answer:

Answer by TweetyBird
I don’t think you really know what antibodies are and how they occur. When a foreign organism – and we can use the spirochete, Borrelia burgdorferi, that causes Lyme – enters the body, this bacteria has a protein on its surface. This protein is called an antigen. Let’s assume this is the first time this body has ever encountered the spirochete.

The body recognizes the protein (antigen) as foreign. Lymphocytes, one type of white blood cell, produce antibodies, a type of immunglobulin, another protein. These antibodies are specific to the antigens that triggered their production in the first place.

Antibodies work in various ways. Some bind to the antigen, the protein on the bacterial surface and start a chain reaction that ultimately causes harm to the bacteria or protects the host body. Other antibodies bind to white cells and activate their individual functions as part of the immune response.

So, to answer your first question (go back and read it again), nothing. Whatever antibodies you used would not have been produced specifically for the antigen on the spirochete bacteria. Without infection, no antigen-specific antibodies. Understand?

To answer your second question, you have only to read my explanation of antibodies and antigens.

My dog got bit by a tick about a mouth ago. I took her to the vet to check for lime disease, the vet found no?

Saturday, October 30th, 2010

Question by Tiffany H: My dog got bit by a tick about a mouth ago. I took her to the vet to check for lime disease, the vet found no?
trace of lyme disease. But there was a huge bump where the tick bit her. The vet said to use Neosporin on the bump that was in December. It is now January and the bump is bleeding, red, and has a pus pocket. My dog is still very active and eats well. I have still been cleaning the bump with rubbing alcohol or Bactine. I think that it is just the bodies way of pushing out the tick head, but I am really concerned I don’t know weather to take her to the vet or just let it heal

Best answer:

Answer by Shopaholic Chick
call the vet when they open again on monday and let them know it appear the area where the tick was is not large red and pussy and see what they reccomend…the dog may be having difficulty removing the head of the tick…and may need it to be removed
