Question by Ityiyam: How many people do you know suffer from Severe cases of Lyme disease?
I have recently been diagnosed with it. It attacks my heart and my entire nervious system. Ive had it for 8 months now…(but I found out about it 1 month ago). Statistics state that 75% of people infected with it (untreated) die from it in 5-6 months. Am I that 25% or is this being alive untreated thing a common occurance?

You have been misinformed. There are no statistics showing that 75% of people with Lyme die in 5-6 months. Not true.

That being said, Lyme is a serious infection that can attack the heart and nervous system, as you said. It can also cause many other symptoms. It is important that you be treated by a Lyme specialist who understands all the ramifications of Lyme and its co-infections. You also need to educate yourself. Here are some good websites to start:

I especially recommend that you join the on-line conversations at lymenet.org–you’ll meet many many people who are going through what you’re going through, and they can help point you in useful directions. Good luck.

our son’s dog has lyme disease and has a cut that is open, can any one catch the disease from the dog?

Question by Angela: our son’s dog has lyme disease and has a cut that is open, can any one catch the disease from the dog?
the dog is being treated for cancer as well. and seems healthy. Also the dog is with our son and daughter in law in their home all the time. We are concerned about our grandchildren getting lyme disease by playing with the dog who has a wound that wont heal it is bandaged most times and saliva contact with the kids kissing and hugging the dog.

No. The agent of Lyme disease, Borrelia burgdorferi, is a spirochaete like the agent that causes syphilis. You can’t contract syphilis by touching a host animal (person), and the same is true of Lyme disease–you can’t get it from touching a dog.

On heavy doses of Doxyclycline, Plaquenil, Mepron, Zithromax and tons and tons of healthy food and nutritional supplements for the past 6 months. Ready to be done, but I’m afraid that I’m just getting started.

Hi,

It all depends on how much damage the bacteria has done before it was detected and treated. Check out the wikipedia website on lyme disease, might give you some insight.

Question by Philip: What is the likelihood of contracting Lyme disease from a tick bite?
I have read from various sources that this is between 1 and 5%, or 1.2% to 1.4%, but can anybody provide a link to a study or other data that can confirm this?
I live in Potomac, which is in Montgomery County, MD.

Not all tocks transmit Lyme’s disease. Deer Ticks most commonly transmit the disease. The actual bacteria is called borreliosis, with the burgdoferri variant most common in the US.

If there are not a lot of deer near where you got the tick bite, you likely have nothing to worry about, except localizing infection if the bite is not treated properly.

Hufford has become a prime mover in the battle to eliminate ALS.”—Mike Wallace, Cbs Correspondent “Obviously I knew how the book would end, but as I was reading I was completely mesmerized. Susan Hufford writes so beautifully and poetically. It felt like I was reading a great mystery. The book simply took my breath away. Q&A: Does anyone know if there is permanent long-term affects from once having Lyme Disease?

Tuesday, November 30th, 2010

Question by Gothmyst: Does anyone know if there is permanent long-term affects from once having Lyme Disease?
I suffered with the disease several years ago, in chronic stages, and now seem to be getting similar symptoms.

The only way to really know is to go back to a Lyme Literate Doctor and have the WB test again. If you are having symptoms, then you may STILL have it and your initial treatment may not have eradicated the disease or you also had a co-infection with it.

The only way to be sure is to have the blood tests to determine that you are clean. Even then, my first set said I did not have Lyme, but erhlicia and the second set said my Lyme was +3. It is a very difficult disease to eradicate.
