Question by married with children: I just found out my daughters boyfriend has Lyme disease. Does anyone personally have this and what should ?
What should my daughter and I know about this? Is it forever, does it hurt? Will he have a life of crippling pain? Any thoughts and ideas, Please
He seems very healthy and plays high school football. I would not have known differently.

You need to go to WebMd.com and read up on Lyme’s disease. If caught early, this can be successfully treated with antibiotics and then he is considered cured. If it is caught later, it usually needs a longer period of treatment. He will not have a life of crippling pain once he is treated. If he is having joint discomfort now, he should be using some over the counter pain medication on a regular basis while being treated. I would guess his physician has already recommended this.

Question about ticks and lyme disease?

Monday, January 30th, 2012

Question by : Question about ticks and lyme disease?
My son was tested for lyme disease today. The doctor is pretty sure that’s what he has because of the rash on his face.

My question is: Don’t ticks put their head in your skin and fill up on blood? I’m sure I would have noticed a tick hanging off of his face, so how would he have contracted it?

Best answer:

Answer by deedee
Some are so small they are hardly noticeable. Once they fill up with blood they usually drop off and this could have happened overnight and you missed it. At least he will get treatment before the symptoms get bad.

Q&A: I found a tick on my testicles could this be lyme disease?

Thursday, January 26th, 2012

Question by Josh: I found a tick on my testicles could this be lyme disease?
Now, the area there is a little bump, and part of my penis there is a rash that itches. We went camping and that’s how i got it, there also i got TONS of mosquito bites. What should i do?

I did not pull the tick out, i found it during school and when me and my mom went to pull it out, it wasn’t there

Best answer:

Answer by azrielle
Probably not, the skin in that area is really sensitive, so any little irritation like a small tick bite could make you itch and cause that area to swell up. If you have any other symptoms like fever, muscle or joint aches, etc, go see your doctor.

Can Lyme disease worsen after antibiotic treatment?

Tuesday, January 24th, 2012

Question by caralee1780: Can Lyme disease worsen after antibiotic treatment?
I’ve been on antibiotics for 2 months, when I started the treatment I wasn’t that bad, a little pain in my feet. Since I’ve been on the antibiotics, the pain has spread to my whole body and I’ve been in nonstop pain since going on the antibiotics…any advice? I know about the Herx, but I thought that was only supposed to last a little while after I took the antibiotics, and supposed to start getting better.

Best answer:

Answer by Ty B
Generally speaking, a very long course of antibiotics is required to cure Lyme’s disease. Are you certain that’s what you have, or is your doctor just basing his diagnosis on your symptoms? You should call him and report this worsening. He may want to add a second antibiotic for cross-coverage.

Good luck…

Q&A: What happens when you get lyme disease?

Thursday, January 12th, 2012

Question by Jessica M: What happens when you get lyme disease?
Is it deadly? Can you live with it forever?

Best answer:

Answer by Henry Zapbeav
If you catch it soon enough there are ways to take care of it. My uncle died of Lyme’s disease he was bitten on the back of one of his testicles, did not know it started getting weak and sick, went to the Dr. The Dr. seen the red round ring, did tests it was Lyme’s disease, he was a deer hunter, died 4 years later. You really should go have blood work done if you suspect this…

We took her to the vet yesterday and she’s on the antibiotics. Will she probably be okay?

It depends on how advanced the Lyme disease is. Early stages are easily treated; late stages are a crap shoot.
This is a question for your vet.

Q&A: Effects of surgery on Lyme Disease patients?

Sunday, December 25th, 2011

Question by Kristen: Effects of surgery on Lyme Disease patients?
Has anyone suffering from Lyme ever had major surgery? If so, were there any lasting effects of the lyme symptoms or did it make the symptoms worse?

Best answer:

Answer by Dekayel
I have heard from various people with Lyme that having surgery makes the symptoms come back with a vengeance. I know of a few people who needed surgery that managed to ward off problems by taking extra antibiotics in the days leading up to the surgery. This should of course only be done in consultation with your Lyme-literate MD.

I suggest you go to http://www.lymenet.com, hit “flash discussion,” and then “medical.” There you can post your question, and people who have been through this experience can offer their advice.
