Antibiotics and Lyme Disease are currently a controversial subject amongst the medical community. Of course, the bullseye rash, erythema chronicum migrans, is a pretty good sign of early stage Lyme disease (ringworm can mimic this though). My hospital handbook lists Doxycycline 100 mg twice daily for 21 days or cefuroxime axetil 500 mg twice daily for 21 days (Amoxicillin for 21 days in children).

Should I take him back??

Monday, February 7th, 2011

Question by hick_chick: Should I take him back??
This is kinda strange, I just posted a question about my old ponys color and then got a call from his current owner.
I got this pony when he was 4, he was 100lbs over weight and just a pasture mate.
I trained him to ride and drive, cleared him of lime disease and got him looking great.

He became a chronic founder case due to his over weight issue.
I gave him to a family that would be able to handle is condition and that had a young son that could ride him.

She wants me to take him back (after over a year) because she can’t handle is weight anymore. I said that I wanted to be the first to know if she didnt want him anymore.

I just dont know if I should take him back.
My dad loved him and would love to drive him again someday.

Tips on getting weight off and caring for a chronic pony?

We have both done everything for his weight, the only thing that worked for me was: Hay only!
Would you take him back and do you think he will ever be able to drive again?

Any input!
I really loved this pony but I have 2 others.
One that hated the pony
One in training
And I am starting college in fall. I will be staying home though.

I just dont want to see him go to a bad place.
I didnt ask to be made into an idiot!
Who the heck cares about my spelling its not the issue!!!

In fact I put over $ 1,000 in savings into this ponies health and issues.

I could no longer pay for his health as I didnt have a job then, I do now and am fully prepared to help him.

She just has too many horses to manage a single diet for one horse. She took him to hospitals got x-rays and found that the bones had not shifted yet.

I wouldnt put a cart on him with his health and I have been around horses for many years, just wanted help not nasty comments!!!!!!

Treatment involves rectifying the underlying causes of body water retention . A low dose of diuretic (water pill) may be prescribed to reduce swelling. In more severe cases of water retention, where the blood vessels are blocked or damaged, surgery may be required

Lyme Disease Testing – Should I Take Antibiotics If I Have A Tick Bite?

Wednesday, December 1st, 2010

Question by Megan: Lyme Disease Testing – Should I Take Antibiotics If I Have A Tick Bite?
Not sure if I have lyme disease – I was out in a forested area all day and felt a tick bite on my legs. I’ve heard that sometimes you don’t feel the symptoms for a while, but would like to confirm this with facts. I’m sure some kind of lyme disease testing would be possible.

Answer by Faye G
The size of the tick and how long it was attached to your skin is important here. Did you take any antibiotics soon after the bite? It’s the first line of defense for tick bites. If the mark on your skin is something like a quarter-sized bull’s eye (a reddish kind of rash), it’s lyme disease and you should take antibiotics immediately.

Lyme disease testing is possible if you were able to remove the tick completely from your skin with tweezers. Sometimes symptoms of lyme disease are not immediately noticed. If so, an easy way to confirm is to have the tick tested for the presence of the disease (it’s transmitable to humans).

i took my caviler king charles spaniel to the vet this morning, because she was scratching her ear and crying last night (it turned out to be a possible ear infection). this evening i found red bugs on her back, and once again, its out of vet hours so i asked a question, they seem to think its ticks, and one person said something about lime disease! im very worried, is there any connection between an ear infection and lime disease or ticks or anything?!! ps. the vet didn’t know about the ticks

Question by alan a: did the gorverment take lyme disease and make a biological wepon with it and test on own troops?
at lab 257 on plum island is where biological wepons were made did they take lyme disease and make a wepon out of it and test it on own troops?

I wouldn’t rule it out as being impossible, but it seems very unlikely. From what I know, lyme disease and the bacteria spirochetes is not a very transmittable pathogen.

It seems more likely that they had some other sort of mishap or issue occurred at that facility:

“Plum Island and Lab 257, as it was designed by the army, was not specifically geared towards germ warfare against people, but against food,” Carroll stated. “It was designed to destroy any animal that could be deemed a food animal. … [The] thinking at the time was that even better than germ warfare against people, germ warfare against food would also starve civilian populations as well, which would force them into submission.”

However, germs are pesky critters, and Carroll believes the facility dubbed “the safest lab in the world” was in fact a series of problems kept hidden.

A bull’s-eye rash can develop within days to weeks after getting bitten by a Lyme-infected tick. However, many people get Lyme disease without ever getting a bull’s-eye rash. So you can’t count on that to let you know you have it.

Best answer:

Answer by babyangel31634
There are no supplements that I am aware of, but there are antibiotics that can speed the healing of the rash and may prevent arthritis and neurologic symptoms. These include doxycycline, Ceftin or amoxicillin. She may try taking some Tylenol or Ibuprofen if she is experiencing muscle aches and headaches.
