Question by My BFF is a Pitador!: Is there really a Lyme disease vaccine?
How long has this been around? An answerer mentioned this on another question I had asked earlier about Frontline Plus. My vet never mentioned this to me!
How effective is this? Is there any risk involved? Any info about this would be greatly appreciated!
If I were to get it, I would get it done in addition to Frontline Plus.

Yes, there is a lyme disease vaccine, but it doesn’t repel ticks and is not effective against all different species of ticks.

Question by wantstoknow: Can someone with lyme disease tell me of there experience with lyme?
I was diagnosed with lyme and the only medication I had was two weeks of doxycycline. I understand that there is more to the treatment than that. I have so many symptoms of lyme and even some of the coinfections. But my doctor just shrugs me off .I have an appointment with the infectuous disease doctor, but it’s a month away. And I don’t know of any llmds in San Diego.

the only thing i know of is my friends girlfriend had it about 8 yrs ago and she did feel like she had the flu. she went to the dr and he said it was nothing…..get some bed rest etc. but a couple of months later she had problems walking like leg cramps, pain and some swelling. later her eyes started getting bad. long and short of it is she ended up using a walker and she lost some vision in her eyes. this might not be what you want to hear but it is true. at this point in her life right now is she can see much better and she walks fine now. took yrs to get better so you do what you have to do to get the answers you are looking for. GOOD LUCK TO YOU…

Question by Lindsey girl: I just had a tick crawl up my arm, now I feel like there are bugs all over me. Do you ever do that?
Our home is surrounded by a wooded area so basically one of us sees one every summer. But now that I know about lime disease and all of that, it freaks me out. I started screaming. I’m ok now I guess.

Question by Ting Valley: Is Lime Sulfur Dip safe to use on cats to treat sarcoptic mange? What other options (minus vet) are there?
About a month ago I noticed a cat w/ a very serious condition of mange hanging around my neighborhood. I had not seen this cat b4 & it was obvious that he was in a terrible state, w/most of his hair missing & very thin. =’[ He only came out at night & I was unsuccessful in my attempts to trap & hopefully help it. Its been 3wks since Ive last seen him. I have 4 cats of my own (all outdoor/indoor & neutered) & 1 has since died ‘mysteriously’ & 2 have begun losing patches of hair around the neck area. It was a terrible loss for me when I discovered that Allen had died & I am still grieving. I do not want to lose Kit Fisto or Lite Bulb to this terrible & torturous disease (mange). I do not have the $ $ right now to get them both (or even 1) treated by a vet & its so frustrating when I know they need me.
The Lime Sulfur Dip method for treatment of feline mange is the most common in my online research. Is this safe for cats? What are the risks? What about homemade remedies? Please help…

About a year ago I resuced a Persian from the animal welfare centre where I help out. She kept coming back in because of ringworm and nothing would shift it. I looked on the internet and found Pets Best RX (Q Based Healthcare) which is an American based company (I live in the UK). The testimonials were excellent so I ordered the lime sulfur cream and also a healing spray. Their lime sulfur is white and smells fresh (just like tea tree oil). Within a matter of days Dora Blossom’s ringworm was healing well and, thankfully, has never returned. I will ALWAYS have the products in my home now as they deal with so many skin problems and I know they can be used for mange as well. The company are excellent and have a help line which you can call and talk things through. They will also e-mail you with answers to your problems if this is more convenient.
Have just checked phone number 1.337.937.8800 and they have a special section for mange – they recommend a spray followed by Sulfinex (the sulfur cream). Hope this helps.
Just to clarify – Dora had been battling with ringworm for a year and had been re-homed 3 times because of the problem. It was obvious that the usual prescription medicines were not working in her case. I did discuss the lime sulfur treatment with my vet and we decided to try it – with excellent results. I would not use ordinary lime sulfur (the green one) as this smells awful and is probably a horrible substance to put on a cat.
Good luck.

Question by Empress KitiKat: I have Chronic Lyme Disease. Are there any alternative medicines that can help relieve some of the symptoms?
I was misdiagnosed multiple times because Lyme testing is so problematic. Now it’s chronic. I no longer have any type of medical insurance. Is there any type of holistic/alternative medications that can help with some of the symptoms? Primarily body aches, fatigue, headaches.

If the infection has been killed with antibiotics, the bacteria is gone. However, what sometimes happens if the disease is diagnosed late, the bacteria has time to cause tissues damage, which I suppose can cause long term problems.
But “post-Lyme disease syndrome” is tricky and there is controversy as to whether or not these are ongoing symptoms, due to a poorly treated infection or infection treated at a late stage, or there is another cause such as an autoimmune condition. So basically it may be due to a reaction of the immune system that does not switch off, even though the original bacteria causing the infection has been killed. Treatment or management really depends on the symptoms and AltMed has nothing to offer.
You need to see a Doctor who specializes in this area.

Your dog should be on a month regime of flea and tick meds that you purchase at the vet’s office. Tomorrow is only Tuesday, so you have plenty of time to get that refill from your vet.

Question by Gothmyst: Does anyone know if there is permanent long-term affects from once having Lyme Disease?
I suffered with the disease several years ago, in chronic stages, and now seem to be getting similar symptoms.

The only way to really know is to go back to a Lyme Literate Doctor and have the WB test again. If you are having symptoms, then you may STILL have it and your initial treatment may not have eradicated the disease or you also had a co-infection with it.
The only way to be sure is to have the blood tests to determine that you are clean. Even then, my first set said I did not have Lyme, but erhlicia and the second set said my Lyme was +3. It is a very difficult disease to eradicate.

I don’t want to have lime disease

Answer by rowdysunsetart
either ice, leave it on for a few min and see if they dont pull out but I found that oil is the best…if it is oil (anykind) or vasaline…wait at least 5 to 10 min to see if they will pull out themselves…they breath thru the body.or heat.a inscense stick is what I have used but be very careful not to touch the skin……put aloe vera on it after you get it out which draws out any poisons…hope it helps

Question by curious K: Are there any doctors around Columbus, OH that treat lyme disease?
It seems that the medical community in Ohio is turning a blind eye to individuals that have lyme disease. Do they believe that deer do not cross state lines? Do they believe that if they say it is bogus, it will go away? It is a shame that people have to go to the east coast for treatment since Ohio doctors won’t treat them. Is there an Ohio doctor that will treat this horrid condition.
